Bier Huis Opens Saturday

Well at last we open our doors on Saturday morning at 10 am and for those who still are unsure where we are. We are in the old portfolio shop at the seemore centre next to Coral bookmakers. In downtown Ossett.

We have had to rush the opening due to a slight error with Royal Mail and not delivering our events licence for the stall at the lights switch on. The stall will still be there and you can purchase a great range of chutney, honey, mustard's and loads of other good stuff but not the beers!

Hopefully everything will arrive on time and fingers cross we have a great range from loads of Yorkshire breweries, a good selection of UK beers some you know some you won't and then a lovely choice of weird and wonderful beers from around the world. If it arrives I recommend the Coral tonica from Madeira. Tasty dark beer.

I have managed to source a selection of ciders none of this magners muck and even some from Yorkshire.

And as the customer is mainly right I have draught drinks for sale in 2 pint cartons. 2 ales and 2 ciders which will rotate.

And if that is not enough I have a great selection of Yorkshire produce. Henderson's Relish, Yorkshire crisps, Yorkshire chorizo now with a spicy version as well. Plus chutney's, mustard's as well as some Wakefield honey.

As for Saturday there will be loads going on so keep checking Facebook or twitter for updates.

And at this point I would like to thank Mark and Caitlin who came along and helped painted the wall. Ian & Steve who with a lot of planning sorted the grilles on the window out. Phil from Holland who popped in with some lovely beers from Belgium. And everyone that has come along and purchased from us and helping to get us set up.

Latest News - October

Well it’s been a long time since I wrote a blog. So here goes.

Its’ been a busy time for us at the moment we are now less than a week away from the end of our licence application process and hopefully that will be signed off with no issues. Then the real work can start on transforming the shop from an empty dirty shell to something which I hope will do us proud. All the shelving has been picked out it’s just a case of the carpet and what colour paint. (We might even have a paint party with food and drink if anyone would like to help) Along with getting the new signage booked in and up.

I did have an opening day of Friday 11th November with a grand opening on the Saturday but this clashes with the Wakefield Beer Festival so we might stick to that date or go for the week after.

So now on to the good stuff I have also been busy sorting out more beers for you. I will have an extra few British beers as well as some lovely extra special Italian beer at our next market which is Saturday 22nd October. (Spread the word) Along with that I have our ever expanding range of gifts. Our own created T-shirts, Calendars & gift packs they can all be seen at www.bierhuis.co.uk/gift-packs and don’t forget Bar Bier Huis will be back £2 a bottle (served in a plastic glass) of York Minster or the lovely German wheat beer Schofferhofer & Ossett Excelsior @ £2.30 for you to drink while you shop on the other stalls.

The following week we are back in Ossett but inside this time at the lovely Elizabethans Christmas Craft Fair at the town hall from 10 am until 1-30

And in all of that I have been busy chatting to brewers up and down the country about having their beers and ciders stocked by us. Although we favour the Yorkshire beers it is also key to us that we supply with some of the regional beers from around the country with a majority of these not being available in the area. Which Concrete Cow and Dunham Massey are. These so far have gone down very well.

If you have any ideas then please email me

So these are just a few breweries which we will be stocking soon.

Wold Top – East Yorkshire
Magic Rock – West Yorkshire
Summer Wine – West Yorkshire
Leeds – West Yorkshire
Coach House – Cheshire
Cheddar Ales - Somerset
Cheshire Cider – Cheshire
Woodthorpe Hall Cider – South Yorkshire

Oh and we are launching a loyalty card. They are being printed at the moment so we should be able to start at the market and for this you will get a double stamp!

Bier huis news - 22/09/2011 Get set for Saturday

We are expecting to be very busy on Saturday and would recommend to avoid disappointment that certain beers might not available. That if you can to pre order so that it is ready to be collected and paid for at speed. All products are on the website. http://www.bierhuis.co.uk/

For Saturday we have a full selection of Little Valley beers (back in stock) as well as 6 more appearing for the first time at our Ossett stall. As always we provide you with great Yorkshire beers mixed in with those that other places can or will not stock.

Don’t forget we will have a selection of cold beers to drink on the day in the market square while you enjoy the other stalls and attractions. And as it’s Oktoberfest in Germany we have gone a little crazy and the stall will be decked out in all things Oktoberfest.

So spread the word and come down to Ossett town centre the action starts from 9am.

A big thanks to those people who have travelled outside of the area to see us so far and for using the other shops, cafes and bars in the town centre.

Visitors have come from across the Wakefield district, Leeds, Bradford and someone even came from near Goole.

Our online side of things has brought in customers from Manchester, London, Sheffield, Milton Keynes and Birmingham.

Don’t forget that yes Christmas is fast approaching and that you can order our range of gift packs to suit your needs.

Thanks all have fun

Your Questions - Answered

UPDATED
What you are asking.

We seem to be creating a buzz around the area at the moment and plenty of you have been asking questions so here they are for you all to enjoy.

Q – Wheat free beer. Do you have any?
A – This has been a major question. We haven’t for a first two markets but we have 2 Gluten free beers one ale, one lager.

Q – Can you get Castle Lager?
A – Yes!  SABmiller are blocking imports at the moment of this beer but I have got hold of some so you can buy by the bottle or the six pack. We also plan to have some other South African beers.

Q – Will you sell Honey?
A – Mmmmm we had no plans to but as per of our remit to sell not just beer but great products like Mustards and chutney’s we thought why not. We have found a local producer of honey but are still waiting to here back.

Q – Can I buy a barrel?
A - Yes you can buy a barrel. However we won’t be able to take orders for that until the shop is open. You will also be able to buy polypins. These are made to order from certain breweries. Full details when we open.

Q – Can I buy a case?
A – Of course. As long as we have full cases available you can and we have a select few for the next market. You can also buy a mix case.

Q – Will you be selling fruit beers?
A – Of course and we hope to sell a lot of flavours. We should have 2 or 3 available at the next market. And it just won’t be Belgium fruit beers we will be selling.

Q – Will you have gift packs for sale when the shop opens?
A – Yes and we will have loads more gift packs. What you see at the moment is just a small choice and they are already very popular.

Q – I see you have pint pot glasses, will you be selling others.
A – Yes we will be selling pint pot glasses on their own as well as other branded glasses. And 2 pint steins!

Q – Do you brew the beer?
A – No we don’t brew the beers but we carefully selected breweries from around the UK and work with importers for non UK beers.

Q – Are you available for beer festivals, craft fairs, charity events etc
A – Yes we are! It is however easier that the premises you are holding these already has a premises licence. Otherwise a temp licence needs to be applied for which needs to completed 14 working days before the event. We can not at the moment help out with charity requests for free beers but we are willing to run stalls at charity beers festivals at cost with profits going to the charity.

Q – Can we bulk buy for a party?
A – Yes in fact you can do more than that! Bier-B-Q will be in full swing come opening when you can purchase any beer including cases from the major brewers(ie john smiths), soft drinks, nibbles and we are hoping to work with a local butcher to be able to supply meat and bakery products. And if you want something that little more you can buy cask ale by the barrel and have a hand beer pump to be operated by yourself or we can supply a bar person.

Q – Yorkshire crisps. Do you have certain flavours?
A – Once we are up and running fully we will have on all flavours. But at the moment we don’t have room to store all flavours. We have to purchase in a bulk with a load of 8 cases so once we are ready for another 8 we will review what has gone down well.

Q – What goes well with cooking with beef?
A – Well lots of wonderful things can be made with the beers we sell and to cook beef in beer we say. Ilkley Black or Ossett treacle stout. And of course why not add a couple of drops of Henderson’s Yorkshire relish. Pale rider makes a great batter for fish and Kastell Cru goes great with Chorizo (Yorkshire chorizo is available to buy from us) and sea food.

Q – Do you sell Tetley’s?
A – We do not class this any longer as a quality beer and will not be selling that along with products like John Smiths, Fosters & Carling.

If you have a question then leave a comment or drop me an email bierhuis@live.co.uk

It has been a pleasure chatting with so many of you in the last couple of weeks. And feel free to say hello and ask anything if you see me in Ossett town centre
